Overview

Humphrey ("we", "us", "our") is a personal relationship management app. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Data We Collect

  • Account information: Your phone number and name, provided during signup or when requesting unlimited access.
  • Content you create: Notes, dates, connections, and other data you enter into the app. This is your personal data and is only accessible to you.
  • Photos: Images you upload from your photo library, such as profile photos for your connections or dating app screenshots. Photos are stored securely in our cloud storage and are only accessible to you.
  • Location data: Venue names and addresses you associate with dates, sourced from Google Places. We do not access your device's GPS or track your real-time location.
  • Usage data: Analytics about how you use the app (features used, AI request metadata) to improve the product.
  • AI interactions: Conversations with Humphrey (our AI assistant) and related content are processed by OpenAI to generate responses. See "AI Features & OpenAI" below for details.
  • Push notification tokens: If you enable push notifications, we store your device token to deliver date reminders and other transactional notifications. Tokens are linked to your account and deleted when you disable notifications or delete your account.

How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and improve the Humphrey app experience.
  • To generate AI-powered insights and recommendations based on the data you provide.
  • To send transactional SMS messages (access confirmations, account approvals). We do not send marketing texts.
  • To send push notifications (date reminders, briefings) if you opt in. You can disable notifications at any time in Settings.
  • To communicate with you about your account.

AI Features & OpenAI

Humphrey uses OpenAI's API to power AI features including chat, date planning, text drafting, and content moderation. Before any of your data is sent to OpenAI, you must provide explicit consent through an in-app prompt. You can revoke this consent at any time in Settings > Privacy > AI Data Sharing.

What is sent to OpenAI:

  • Chat messages you send to Humphrey
  • Connection details, notes, and date information relevant to your request
  • Content submitted for moderation (to ensure safety)

What OpenAI does with your data:

  • OpenAI processes your data to generate responses. Your data is not used to train their AI models.
  • OpenAI may retain API inputs for up to 30 days for abuse and safety monitoring, after which they are deleted.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely on Supabase (hosted on AWS) with row-level security policies ensuring only you can access your own data. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Photos are stored in Supabase Storage with the same access controls.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account through Settings:

  • Your authentication credentials are permanently deleted immediately.
  • Your personal data (connections, dates, notes, photos, chat history) is archived and permanently purged within 30 days.
  • A hashed, non-reversible record of the deletion is retained for audit and fraud prevention purposes.
  • Data already sent to OpenAI is subject to their 30-day retention policy for abuse monitoring.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the app:

  • Supabase: Database, authentication, and file storage (hosted on AWS).
  • OpenAI: AI-powered features, chat, and content moderation. Your data is sent to OpenAI for processing but is not used to train their models. See "AI Features & OpenAI" above.
  • Google Places: Venue search and address lookup for date locations.
  • Helicone: AI usage analytics and cost tracking. Request metadata (skill used, response time, token count) is logged to monitor performance and costs.
  • Twilio: SMS notifications (access request flow only).
  • Vercel: App hosting and deployment.
  • Apple Push Notification service (APNs): Delivery of push notifications to iOS devices.

Data Sharing

We never sell or share your personal data with third parties for advertising, marketing, or data brokerage purposes. Data is only shared with the service providers listed above as necessary to operate the app.

Your Rights

  • Access: You can view all your data within the app at any time.
  • Deletion: You can permanently delete your account and all associated data from the Settings page.
  • Portability: Contact us to request an export of your data.
  • AI consent: You can revoke AI data sharing at any time in Settings > Privacy. When revoked, no data is sent to OpenAI and AI features are disabled.

California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of its sale. We do not sell your personal information. To exercise these rights, contact us at the email below or use the in-app deletion feature.

Children's Privacy

Humphrey is intended for users 17 years of age and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 17. If we learn that we have collected data from a user under 17, we will delete it promptly.

Push Notifications

You may opt in to push notifications for date reminders and briefings. You can disable push notifications at any time through your device settings or within the app. We do not send marketing push notifications.

SMS Communications

By submitting an access request, you consent to receive a confirmation text and a one-time approval notification. We do not send recurring or marketing messages. Standard message and data rates may apply.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by other means. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
